Startup Weekend

Refund Policy:  No refunds will be granted within 7 days of the event if food and drink have already been ordered. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

About Startup Weekend: Startup Weekends are 54-hour events designed to provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs.  Beginning with Friday night pitches and continuing through brainstorming, business plan development, and basic prototype creation, Startup Weekends culminate in Sunday night demos and presentations.  Participants create working startups during the event and are able to collaborate with like-minded individuals outside of their daily networks. All teams hear talks by industry leaders and receive valuable feedback from local entrepreneurials. The weekend is centered around action, innovation, and education.  Whether you are looking for feedback on a idea, a co-founder, specific skill sets, or a team to help you execute, Startup Weekends are the perfect environment in which to test your idea and take the first steps towards launching your own startup.

Terms of Participation Agreement: It is our job to provide you with an incredible networking and learning opportunity. Our intention is that you meet some amazing people that you might actually start a company with, build relationships with coaches, and learn from your peers. The event is intended to be a collaborative forum for sharing, learning, building, and having fun. As such, by registering as a participant, you acknowledge that any ideas shared by you or anyone else over the course of the event are contributions to the overall experience and community. If you as a participant are worried about someone stealing your ideas, please reconsider your participation in the event itself or simply refrain from sharing specifics about your idea.

As a member of your startup community, you agree to to be inclusive of any and all people and their ideas. You agree to act professionally, treat everyone with respect, and treat the event facilities with proper care. You agree that you are responsible for any accidents or damages that you cause. You also agree to not hold Startup Weekend, your local volunteer team, or any of the event supporters liable for any loss, damage, injury, or any other unforeseeable incident.

By Participating at the event, you grant Startup Weekend permission to capture photo/video of the event. You can find the exact legal terms on our FAQ Page but to summarize, we want to share your success with the world.

****HACKATHON*****
Startup Weekend Busan

Free Code Camp Busan are proud to announce the 2nd annual Startup Weekend Busan event! Each year, developers, designers, and marketers make teams and turn amazing ideas into beautiful web and mobile applications. And it's all done in the course of a single weekend!

Many of these ideas and prototypes go on to become startup businesses. Who knows? You just might have the next big idea that could change the lives of millions of people.

**Where is it?**

This year's event will be hosted at GROO Stage on the Moon. It's a very cool performance space near Pusan National University, and they will let us use their space FOR THE ENTIRE WEEKEND! 24/7!

Getting there is pretty simple. Just take the subway to Pusan National University and go out Exit 3. The address is 418-33 Jangjeon 3(sam)-dong, Geumjeong-gu, Busan.

**Who can participate?**

Software and web developers, UX/UI designers, project managers, marketers, and anyone else with similar skills are strongly encouraged to participate. It doesn't matter if you are an amateur or professional because all levels are welcomed to this event. If you have an idea for an awesome application and the skills to bring it to life, you need to sign up for the Startup Weekend.

**How will the event work?**

On the evening of Friday, July 29, you will meet and network with the other participants. You will then form teams based on the ideas that people pitch. If you like somebody's idea and think it's feasible to build a prototype over the weekend, then you make a team!

From Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, teams will have all day and all night to build the application, test it, and prepare a marketing presentation. On Sunday afternoon, you will have a chance to demonstrate your project to the audience and answer any questions.

By the end of the weekend, you will have a product to share on your portfolio, and the connections to possibly start a new business.

**What if I can't come to Friday's opening ceremony?**

We understand that many people have to work late and may not have the availability to come to the first night. No problem! With some advanced notice, we can help you join a team. That said, you have to be available to work on your team project during the weekend.

**What kind of ideas can I pitch?**

In this hackathon, you must build an application that solves a specific problem for the people who are living, working, or traveling in South Korea.

That is literally the only requirement!

**Are there any technical requirements?**

Nope! Your team may use any programming language or stack to develop your idea. It may be a web or mobile application... or both! So long as you solve a specific problem for people who live, work, or travel in South Korea with code, your idea is eligible.

**Are there any prizes or awards?**

Although many hackathons offer cash prizes or awards, Free Code Camp Busan want to keep things as simple as possible and have participants focus solely on their ideas. Teams will have the opportunity to share their work and demonstrate their applications to an audience on Sunday afternoon, but there's no pressure, no judges, and no worrying about silly competitions.

**Why is there an entrance fee?**

We want participants to signal their seriousness and commitment to the event by paying a very small fee of 20,000 KRW ($16.82 USD, Event Bright doesn't accept KRW). In return, you will receive a lot of cool souvenirs to help you remember this event plus all the bottled water and snacks to keep you fueled for the entire weekend.
