KIDS GIVING BACK: ** DESIGNING VIDEO GAMES FOR CHILDREN WITH AUTISM **
These will be exciting and positive bi-annual competitions where scholars from numerous Independent School Districts will team up to give back their time and talent.
During the Fall 2017 Purpose Hackathon, scholars will be designing video games for children with Autism!
Exciting prizes, certificates, recognition and mentorship from University of North Texas Kristin Farmer Autism Center (UNT), University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), Texas Christian University (TCU) and executives from organizations in STEAM fields including AT&T Oasis, IBM, Microsoft and Cerebrum, among others, will be presented and provided.
Local Students Need your Sponsorship to Join the #HackAutism Movement and Today:*The Need:*We have received numerous requests from schools serving students from low income, single mother head-of-household families who are eager to bring Scholars to this exciting Multi-School innovative experience in S.T.E.A.M! • Please email juliet@steamachievers.org with any other schools in need of sponsorship before September 30, 2017. Please include in your email the number of scholars, grades, gender, school name, and Independent School District (ISD). Open to 3rd-12th grade only.About the Scholars:• We have a number of scholars from Uplift Education Charter Schools and Irving ISD schools. • Others come from the 5 City of Dallas locations where scholars learned how to design computer science projects through STEAM Achievers Summer Camps. • A large percentage of the students are girls and underrepresented minorities with limited to no computer literacy skills. What the Scholars will Learn and Experience:✓ This will be an amazing opportunity for them to have fun meeting new friends, building critical thinking skills, professional presentation skills with scholars from other school districts,and learning from their peers.✓ Scholars will collaborate within a team environment and will together give back to their community by designing and presenting video games for children with autism and other special needs. ✓ Recipients of the winning video games will be the UNT Kristin farmer Autism Center among other local organizations that serve children with autism and other disabilities.✓ Scholars will be mentored all day by professionals from S.T.E.A.M. organizations, from education, and from faculty members from local universities.✓ Scholars will work in teams and will be mentored all day by professionals from S.T.E.A.M. organizations, from education, and from faculty members from local universities.Your Tax Deductible Gift will Help Diverse Kids and Youth Learn While Giving Back: - Your tax-deductible gift will go a long way in helping us bridge the STEAM and academic achievement gap among children and youth from diverse economic backgrounds, and inspiring them to get excited about Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics in school and in their future careers. - Our STEAM programs and events are designed to prove to scholars that they have what it takes to do well in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics in school and Beyond and to put the dots so close together, that scholars can begin visualizing a career in STEAM, beginning from an early age. - There is a huge need for bus transportation as well as the $20 fee per child. $20 - Sponsors 1 Scholar$40 - Sponsors 2 Scholars$100 - Sponsors 5 Scholars$500 - Sponsors a Classroom of 25 Scholars$1000 - Sponsors 2 Classrooms (50 Scholars)BUS TRANSPORTATION:($100/ hr, 4hr Minimum)$400 - Sponsors 1 Bus$800 - Sponsors 2 Buses$1200 - Sponsors 3 Buses2017-2018 K-12 AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS NEEDED AT 24 DALLAS AND IRVING LOCATIONS:STEAM Achievers has received requests to bring our impactful STEAM After school programs to 24 locations, including 20 in DISD. Impact and Achievements:• Due to their impact, our scholars and programs were recognized at the 2017 City of Dallas Mayor's Youth Initiative before an audience of 3000 attendees.• We are honored to have been named a City of Dallas Technology Focus Partner this year. • STEAM Achievers scholars from Uplift North Hills Preparatory and the STEAM Achievers Purpose Hackathon (pH) were also featured on WFAA Channel 8 News on May 5th, 2017.• Microsoft partnered with STEAM Achievers on their annual Microsoft Digigirlz High Tech Camp.• STEAM Achievers Student Internship and Volunteer Opportunities:- We are have been providing year-round opportunities for high school, middle school and college students in Irving, Dallas and Coppell schools to earn the internship and volunteer hours needed to meet their graduation requirements. These opportunities include scheduled mentorship opportunities by professionals in Science Technology Engineering Art and Math careers and higher education.* In-Kind Donations of new or gently used working laptops, Wi-Fi hotspots and Wi-Fi Data are greatly appreciated. Educational Services* and STEAM Achievers National Outreach Partnership Opportunities:STEAM Achievers is in need of funding to create educational apps and websites for much-needed K-12 Hybrid STEAM and STEAM Achievers Literacy Programs to serve scholars in Dallas Fort Worth, in Texas, and, to replicate this unique and tested approach to hands on instruction, STEAM immersion experiences, and STEAM career readiness and mentorship beginning from an early age.
