Techfugees 'Help is at hand' Conference 2017

Techfugees, in collaboration with Cambridge Assessment English, present this conference to explore how mobile technologies can support the education, wellness, entrepreneurship and connectivity of forced migrants throughout the world.

Techfugees is a social enterprise coordinating the international tech community’s response to the needs of refugees. Techfugees organises conferences, workshops, hackathons and meetups around the world in an effort to generate tech solutions that can help refugees. The need for English language skills continues to be of great importance, and, as experts in English language teaching, learning and assessment, Cambridge Assessment English are ideally placed to support Techfugees in their mission.

The conference on Saturday 2nd December, 2017 brings together refugees, teachers, investors, researchers, developers and academics to work together on some key issues. The day will be split into two distinct halves. In the first half, there will be the opportunity to hear from the people who know the context and have experience of using mobile technologies to support forced migrants.

In the second half, we will be asking all delegates to take part in workshops to come up with solutions to a series of challenges around supporting forced migrants using mobile technologies. We hope that the workshops result in solutions that can be implemented quickly and where they are most needed. The themes for the workshops are around different ways of learning, donating hardware and accrediting learning.

Mobiles phones are indispensable for forced migrants. This conference is an attempt at giving mobile devices even more power to improve the lives of many.

Please note that this event will be filmed and photographs will be taken. If you do not wish to be filmed or photographed please let us know prior to the event.
