When you travel, what's your home away from home?

Hotel? Home share? Hostel? Campground? Sleeping bag on a friend's sofa?

As travelers become increasingly confident their mobile devices and social network connections will help find the perfect place to stay, here's your chance to invent new digital apps to ease their journey – THack Mallorca, a hackathon dedicated to hospitality solutions.

THack Mallorca is FREE for professional and student developers and offers the chance for teams of up to five developers to win their share of at least EUR5,000 in cash and other prizes.

Produced by Tnooz and co-presented by Hotelbeds, THack Mallorca will take place at the University of the Balearic Islands May 6-8. The weekend hackathon offers access to APIs and other technology provided by leading travel technology companies.

Among the API and technology providers are Hotelbeds, with its hotel bedbank, TAB transfers/activities bank and Taxi Time APIs, Booking.com's first public launch of its API, Musement's activities API, Rome2Rio's multi-modal transport API and XapiX, which provides software enabling direct connection to e-commerce API endpoints. The companies will have support team on-site and online to assist developer teams.

The hackathon will be organized as two contests of up to 100 developers, each with its own prizes. One track will be for students, the other track will be for professional developers.

The focus of the hackathon will be disruption and innovation in the travel and hospitality industries, with emphasis on mobile applications that enhance traveler experiences.

All participants on developer teams MUST register and compete on-site in Palma. Hackers will be permitted to work at the university around-the-clock Saturday and Sunday before presentation of their projects to an independent judging panel.

As an incentive, registered developers will be offered discount accommodations by Hotelbeds on Mallorca or other destinations in Hotelbeds' private-label database of hotels and resorts. Participants will receive links and discount codes following registration.
