The Words Liive Reading Hackathon Tour - Prince George's County, MD

The Words Liive 'Reading Hackathon' is designed to optimize student and
teacher participation in co-creating the reading and writing curriculum for
the students. Via the unique ability Words Liive has to integrate student
preference via music and contemporary culturally relevant books, we will
successfully enable teachers' ability to respond to their students' cultural
interests. Additionally, we'll systemically integrate students' music and
    reading interests into the curriculum.
The 'Reading Hackathon' Tour event is intended to occur each week during
Black History Month 2019 in target markets of DC/Maryland, Chicago, LA,
and Atlanta (respectively for each week in Feb.)

The structure of the Reading Hakcathon program is designed to 'hack' the 2nd half of the school year's reading curriculum with music and contemporary novels. We gather students and teachers in groups with our team members to identify the text passages from music and contemporary books that match the teacher's learning objectives for the year. The students have to read, discuss, and argue for adding the new texts they discover (including the songs lyrics) that match the learning objectives from excerpts of their reading lists in order to complete the competition. The team with the most accurate matches will Win! The total output of the program is the live updating of our app's database with the schools' reading curriculum content and the newly matched music. The program, thereby, allows teachers and students to develop a customized content experience on the Words Liive app that will facilitate lessons for the remainder of the school year in their English and Social Studies/ Civics classes.
