On December 4th - 6th we are hosting our first NYC Ideation Hack Weekend to challenge the city to take it to the financial institutions.  We want to address the real issues and help create game changing solutions to some of the industry’s biggest problems. 

THE LOCATION

To be held at WeWork, 25 Broadway. Located in the heart of the financial district next to the famous Charging Bull and a stones throw from Wall Street, we will play host to 100 of New York’s best designers, developers, business and creative minds.  If that’s you then get signed up!

How can we utilize modern technology (hardware & software to disrupt the current banking systems to benefit the customer?

 

WHO IS IT FOR?

‘Break The Banks’ Ideation Hackathon weekend is not just for the traditional computer hacker. It’s also for the business and creative hackers as well as those who want to do something different; the doers, makers & disruptors. The most important thing is are you up for a challenge and willing to try something new!  Whether you’re a seasoned entrepreneur, or have never been involved in a startup before, this weekend welcomes all those with a desire to changing the world of banking for the better!  

 

AGENDA

Friday Night  

This is ‘Pitching Time’. Anyone who has a FinTech idea has the opportunity to pitch it. Ideas can be anything from something you’ve been thinking about for ages, to an ‘off the wall’ idea.  Then pick which idea and team you want to work with for the weekend and start planning over drinks and pizza. 

Saturday

Arrive on Saturday, bright and early, and learn new tools to take your ideas forward through Oxygen workshops.  Then get cracking on your idea in your team – figure out what problem your solving, who for, and what you need to create to make it happen.  Our brilliant team of expert mentors will come round and grill you on your business as you then hit the streets to speak with customers and gain valuable feedback.  Continue to build and develop your startup fuelled by caffeine, food and drinks long into the night. 

Sunday

A morning full of Yoga (optional) and an inspirational talk by the Charging Bull to get you going for the final push.  After a pitching workshop from Oxygen, time to polish your idea and get ready to pitch to our expert panel of judges and be in with a chance of winning some of the amazing prizes.

 

 

WHAT WILL WE GET OVER THE WEEKEND? 

Alongside the training, opportunity to create a startup and meet amazing people, you'll get evening breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and drinks nonstop throughout the weekend, as well as tech tools and other goodies.

 

PRIZES

Everyone will have the chance to learn key skills and tools in creating a startups as well as making invaluable contacts through working with top tier mentors and pitch to a panel of industry experts and investors.  But winners will get a series of cash, press and support prizes to be announced soon!

HOW DOES THE DEPOSIT WORK?

We've got limited places for the event, so to ensure that everyone who wants to come can do so, we're asking you to confirm your place by placing a £20 deposit. When you attend on the Friday, we'll refund your £20 using Eventbrite. 

 

ABOUT TRANSFERWISE

TransferWise challenge financial institutions by charging drastically lower fees than the major clearing banks or wire transfer services such as Western Union. Letting people send money internationally online using a peer-to-peer marketplace and are currently transferring over $762 million a month and have transferred over $4.5 billion since launch in 2011. What can/can't I bring to the event?

Not much you can't bring, but please be sure to bring your own electronic devices such as laptops & tablets with charging cables.

Do I have to attend the entire event? 

No you don't, although it is recommended, if you can't make Friday you can still register Saturday morning and if you have to leave early Sunday this will not be an issue or effect your ability to attend.
