To help drive innovation and entrepreneurship, the Czech Telecommunications Office (CTU) is joining with AT&T, one of the world's largest communications companies, to host a hackathon in Prague for the V4 region on 22-23 April 2016 at the Orea Hotel Pyramida. The hackathon is open to developers and non-developers. Their mission? In 24 hours, create new apps to harness our Connected Life in one of three categories:
- Smart Cities App Challenge: Improve the efficiency of city services by leveraging AT&T and sponsor technologies to address issues in parking, resource management and community engagement.
- Education App Challenge: Create an impactful education focused app leveraging AT&T and sponsor technology with a focus on disrupting traditional learning in the school and/or at home.
- Best Use of the Czech Republic’s Open Data: The application that best uses open data from the Czech Republic’s government sources.
- Best Use of CZ.NIC Open Source: The application that best uses the open source framework from the Czech Domain Name Registrar – CZ.NIC.
Winners will share cash prizes worth US$15,000 and Nanodegree scholarships worth US$10,000 from AT&T and Udacity. Winning teams will also receive mentoring.
The hackathon will provide the developer teams tools they need to create new apps. That includes the powerful AT&T M2X IoT development platform. It offers a toolset to quickly create and refine prototypes, and cloud-based data storage to help collect, analyze and share IoT data. Tech experts will also be at the event to lend support. Czech Domain Name Registrar, CZ.NIC, will provide support during the hackathon through their open source software and other technology.
Judging criteria based on:
- Ability to clearly articulate what your app does
- Originality of idea
- Use of target technologies
The hackathon will take place at the Orea Hotel Pyramida. It will begin at 9.00 a.m. CET on April 22 and end at 6.00 p.m. CET on April 23. The first place prize will receive US$10,000; the second place prize will receive US$2,000; and the third place prize will receive US$1,000. Special US$1,000 prizes will be given for the best use of the Czech Republic’s open data sources and best use of CZ.NIC’s open source framework. In addition, five participants will be awarded Nanodegree scholarships, funded by AT&T and Udacity, to earn an online degree that will help prepare them for careers in the tech industry.
