GHC/1 started is a one-day conference modeled after ABI's international Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing (GHC). This event aims to bring women technologists from all skill levels together with industry leading companies to connect, learn and advance their careers. Women are succeeding in all professions including the “hot” fields: Fin-Tech, Data Science, and Cyber Security. These women will discuss what they accomplish on a daily basis, the prerequisite skills, and the steps necessary for you to secure a position in the area of your choice. Women technologists are diverse in appearance, age, and employment history. Join us to hear their stories about the past, present, and future of women in the field of computing and learn from their experiences.

This hackathon is hosted by the GSD African American Student Union who have been working on a research initiative entitled “Map the Gap,” which investigates spatial, socioeconomic, and political inequities in ten U.S. cities. #HacktoMaptheGa will aim to bring together students, practitioners, academics, and community members to further conversations about inequity in the nation’s urban centers. You will gather data and information across four main categories including: housing, education, transit/job access and crime, and discuss the results of the research together. The initiative is rooted in U.S. current events. It analyzes recent police shootings by contextualizing fatal encounters within their built environment. This event hopes to drive constructive conversations around inequity, begin to reframe alternate modes of decision making/ policymaking, and offer a new model for learning and teaching within academia.

This is a hiring hackathon inviting you to apply for the Data Science Hackathon where you will have to come up with fun and interactive applications. Indix is building the world’s largest product information marketplace by collecting product information from the web and partners. Using sophisticated data science Indix collects, documents and structures product information and exposes it through a Product API.  Their problem space involves text mining, classification, natural language processing, product matching and search relevance at massive scale.

This hackathon invites all Canadian residents over the age of 18 to come and find solutions to tackle the congestion that plagues the rush hour commutes of thousands of employees in Toronto. The NUS Data Science Student Challenge is part of a global series of Hackathons around Data Science and to help students develop the skills necessary to harness the power of analytics. The NUS Data Science Student Challenge is a collaboration between NUS Students' Computing Club, NUS and Microsoft.

This is a 3-day workshop where you all about Big Data with a specific focus on Hadoop, Spark, NoSQL and Cassandra. The workshop is targeted for a small focused group of attendees with more than 70% hands on lab. You will not only learn the technology but also get familiarized with industry specific applications. This course is appropriate for any Big Data enthusiast including Software Programmer, Project Manager, Product Manager, Architect, DBA or Quality Analyst. Prior experience with programming is not necessary.

This is a hackathon on big data where you will be asked to build projects that remix big amounts of data. Either obtaining the data through APIs or by scraping. The tools that you will be using include the Python programming language and Google App Engine. Creating an application for a few users or millions of users is fundamentally the same in GAE. All participants will be placed in pairs. One member of the team can gather the data while the other can prepare the application itself or one member can prepare the web app while the other prepares the mobile app. Towards the end of the event, each team will present their project and each team votes for another team for best hackathon project. All projects completed at the hackathon will be fully production ready!
