Makers, designers, and coders in the Greater Miami Area! You're invited to sign up to participate in the Great Miami Makeathon. This event is focused on making & creating solutions for the city of Miami! You'll be challenged to design and develop a functional prototype to address the problems faced by one of the event's project partners -- The Miami Science Barge, The Wynwood Yard, or The Cuban Diaspora Museum.

Students -- high school, undergrads, grads, and post-docs -- in the Calgary area! Come and participate in the ProtoChallenge. You'll get the opportunity to pitch ideas that help the community, then build a prototype to gain skills, find potential employers, and win prizes. Collaborating in a group, you'll pick one of the event's themes, then validate the market and technical feasibility, before actually creating your prototype. Students in the North West! Are you interested in the impact of gardens on local communities? If so, then you should plan to participate in the upcoming UWB Hackathon series. And to prepare for that, the UWB Hackathon Planning Committee invites you to attend pre-Hackathon events. You'll get the opportunity to see demos of gardening techniques, as well introducing you to sensors, IoT devices and embedded systems.

AquaHacking is a five-month long hack-a-thon that catalyzes stakeholders who want to protect our freshwater – citizens, decision makers, practitioners, researchers, NGOs – to take action. AquaHacking challenges young digital designers and coders, aspiring water experts and entrepreneurs to develop applications that raise awareness about water issues, and that solve water problems. There is $75,000 in prize money available, in addition to access to local accelerators and mentors for winning teams. The Challenge: Water experts, hackers, engineers, and other creative minds work together as a team for 10 weeks to develop functional, marketable innovations to help solve Lake Erie’s water issues. The competition runs from April - September, with semi-finals in June and the finals in September. Anyone 18 or older is welcome. We are looking for creative minds, whatever their field of expertise, but especially students, water researchers, developers, digital designers, programmers, engineers, technology enthusiasts, entrepreneurs and people who want to save the world! Sponsored and presented by Genuine, the 2017 HackBeanpot competition features an immersive weekend-long workshop bringing together Boston’s up-and-coming collegiate developers to learn about new technologies and work intensively on software and design projects of their choice. Participating teams of all skill levels will show off their coding prowess and compete to create original projects incorporating APIs and services from companies such as Google, Amazon, IBM Watson, Spotify and Twitter. Winning projects, which are awarded prizes in various categories, will be judged based o original coding and design skills that articulate clear use cases for each team’s final product. Many hackathons focus on specific themes or problems that need to be solved, with winners picked on how a project best solves a particular issue. HackBeanpot avoids this philosophy in favor of letting each team work on their own projects, this year with an added spotlight on “#InventTogether,” a phrase which originated from presenting partner Genuine.
