List of hackathons about media in 2016

This is a 24-hour Hackathon organised by CREATe, the Centre for Copyright and New Business Models in the Creative Economy inviting you to come and explore cutting edge research, develop tools and challenge assumptions about the role of copyright in society. The purpose of this hackathon is to explore ways to innovatively mine, analyse and visualise data about the effects of copyright.

This is the first FIVR hackathon (Finland VR Hackathon), a weekend long event for virtual reality and augmented reality enthusiasts to share ideas and come together to craft experiences with the latest VR platforms and gadgets. The topics that are to be covered on the weekend are: bringing archive material into AR/VR/360 environment Yle, building a way to travel through the history of libraries Central Library, and introducing new life to old stereoscopic images Helsinki City Museum. If you have your own topic in mind, then you are encouraged to pitch it during the topic presentations on Friday. You should bring your own laptop, tablet, VR gear, crayons and whatever else you think you might need for the event. You will be provided with WLAN, working space for the weekend, food and drinks.

This is a hackathon where you can turn your crazy ideas into real stuff. Startup UCSD is giving you the opportunity to hack away at a particular problem with a particular end-user in mind and coming up with a solution in the form of a product or service that people would actually want. It is the time to bring out those ideas, to add the finishing touches to current projects, and to create something completely new. There is no specific theme. You are open to work on any good idea!

This hackathon is inviting all developers, artists, hackars, and designers to gather for an interactive experience on the theme "Building a City for Humans". Come along to take a look towards the future of the human city; a city where technology and art meet, a city built for people with feelings and visions. There will be three tracks that you and your team will be able to choose as challenges: internet, love and mobility. This event is also part of the Art & Tech Skåne Week 2016, which therefore will also be featuring inspiring lectures within the theme.

Hackingfest is a hackathon series for software, hardware developers and designers to come and participate in a project to improve life. There will be seminars and conferences held to become familiar with the issues and technologies so you can get the opportunity to develop projects with the hackingfest technologies. At the end of the event, applications will be evaluated by the jury, you can start your project before the hackathon, but if you did, please inform the event organizers about the status of your project while participating in the event. Participants are free to use any technology they want to use in their applications. 24 hours drinks and food will be provided free to participants. All you need to bring is your own laptop.

Anvil Hack II is a student run hackathon focused on the creative applications of technology taking place at the Goldsmiths University of London. Any enrolled undergraduate or postgraduate student, or graduate less than a year out of university can attend this event. Use your skills to make something wonderful, arty, musical, or just plain old awesome. You'll be provided with food, drinks, electricity and WiFi, so that you can get on with the real work - making cool things!

This hackathon will brin together three countries, three time zones and three tech hubs. Crowd2Map Tanzania was one of 7 projects selected in the Open Seventeen challenge, which rallies the public to use open data as a means of achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This event is part of the project, organizing a triple mapping day in Dar+London+Vilnius. This will be a fun hackathon between the three "camps", as all will compare the results at the end, and  bridge techies in the 3 locations via video conference and chat throughout the event across locations.

The TransUnion hackathon's challenge will include TransUnion datasets for you and your team to solve and implement an educational, addictive and immersive Desktop or Mobile App Game using a Score Simulator based on life events. There will be Food, Workshops and Cash Prizes available.

Come to the Music Experiences and Education Hackathon to work in collaboration with the audience and define design challenges by using the SmartBomb design kit. You will collaborate with musicians, programmers, artists, scientists, composers, hardware tinkerers and others around music making and learning. Workshops and team mentors will help develop the ideation process around the challenges defined on day one.

A Hackathon for musicians, programmers, scientists, and other artists to hack together on projects exploring music. At the end there will be a concert and presentations of the art, technology, and research developed. The event is open to everyone whether you want to participate or just have a look.
