We want to invite you to a day of fun and hacking and are going to kickstart 2019's js13kGames coding competition on August 17th. As a special guest and master of ceremony, the competition's creator, game developer and Mozilla Tech Speaker Andrzej Mazur is going to visit us. He will guide us through the day, present some insights into the game development scene and be available for general mentoring throughout the day. While the main focus is on working on your game, you will get the chance to network with other game devs and play on real arcade machines. During a two days game jam the participaiting teams aim to develop first game prototypes on the subject of Europe. The game ideas are to centre around diversity, democracy, and freedom. The prototypes developped will be played and presented on a large LED-screen on the Schlossplatz in the centre of Stuttgart city. The game jam is organised by the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) in cooperation with the Institut français Stuttgart and the Heinrich Böll Foundation.

VR Hackathon | 2×8: Exchange – Invisible Cities 2×8 is a unique annual exhibition & scholarship program showcasing exemplary student work from architecture & design institutions throughout California. It culminates in an exhibition where student projects are celebrated and scholarship prizes are awarded. The audience for this exhibit historically draws from the design communities within LA, both professional and academic, though in 2019 we anticipate a wider audience. In recent years, the evolution and utilization of VR technology has transformed how buildings are imagined, evaluated, communicated and built. This year, 2×8 will be incorporating a parallel VR gallery in the exhibit to explore the potential of VR and cross disciplinary collaboration within the field of architecture. We would like to explore the following questions: ○ What would a future in which architecture evolves beyond tangible objects look like? ○ What can the introduction of game mechanics into a virtual built environment teach us about design? ○ How does VR integration shift the existing paradigm of architectural design? ○ How can VR help immerse designers in the life and breath of a city?
