Are you interested in helping solve the problems of people with disabilities? Then participate in the HACK FOR NEEDS Hackathon. Designers, developers, prototyping and automation enthusiasts are invited to a day of collaboration to solve one of the following five needs of people with disabilities: 1. TURN ON - OFF: Develop switch activated by limited body movements 2. COMMUNICATE: Develop instruments to express YES / NO; I'M THIRSTY - I WOULD LIKE COFFEE; I WANT TO GO OUT; I WANT TO REST. 3. MARK TIME: Develop tools to indicate the time, its passing and to guide the sequence of activities, times of the day. 4. MOVE YOURSELF: Develop tools which identify obstacles and give indications of full / empty. 5. RECEIVE SENSORY INPUTS: Create visual, auditory, and tactile inputs through technology that the person can choose and experiment.

Virtual Reality techie? It's your day! Sign up for Western Australia's first virtual reality hackathon. AVRN's VR Hackathon is a 51-hour hackathon event dedicated to both developing entertainment based experiences as well as applying VR to solve industry challenges. Participants will work with leading entrepreneurs and mentors from the VR sector, as well as startup community in Perth, to produce an innovative solution to one of their challenges. To win the hackathon, it is imperative that you bring the most innovative, creative, and applicable ideas to the table. You don't have to be the most experienced developer, or have the best headset, to win.

Dog lovers. Register for the Canine Hackathon and collaborate to build apps and products for dogs. At the end of the hackathon dogs will judge the apps on their merits, counting barks and tail wags to determine the best one. The prize for winning is receiving lots of doggy affection.

Each year, B&T Magazine recognises inspirational women in Media at its annual Women in Media Awards. In the spirit of collaboration, this year there will be a hackathon element to the event, attendees split into groups to come up with three actionable ideas to meet challenges facing women in the industry.
