This is the first FIVR hackathon (Finland VR Hackathon), a weekend long event for virtual reality and augmented reality enthusiasts to share ideas and come together to craft experiences with the latest VR platforms and gadgets. The topics that are to be covered on the weekend are: bringing archive material into AR/VR/360 environment Yle, building a way to travel through the history of libraries Central Library, and introducing new life to old stereoscopic images Helsinki City Museum. If you have your own topic in mind, then you are encouraged to pitch it during the topic presentations on Friday. You should bring your own laptop, tablet, VR gear, crayons and whatever else you think you might need for the event. You will be provided with WLAN, working space for the weekend, food and drinks.

This VR Hackathon is inviting all developers, designers, and visual/graphics/sound artists to build apps and VR experiences for the VR Passport campaign, a campaign to make a positive impact on others' lives. There will be mentors present at the event with experience on different aspects of VR development during the two workshops and the hackathon. You will have access to the WearHacks hardware library and will be able to use Project Tango's Development kit for your project. There will be two workshops organized prior to the hackathon for those of you who do not have a lot of experience with VR platforms. You will get familiar with Project Tango tablet dev kit and other wearables/VR/IoT devices. Anyone is welcome to participate, but as the event can only support a limited number of participants, there is an application process dependent on some criteria including: previous experience with developing on VR platforms, review of previous work, project proposal, and general team makeup (engineers, designers, artists).
