You're invited to participate in the ACM-W UK Inspire 2020, which brings together women in the computing profession and related technical fields to exchange knowledge and experience and provide special support for women who are pursuing their academic degrees and starting their careers in computing. The 2-day programme includes a Hackathon, Workshops, Posters, Technical Talks, Panel Discussions, and Interdisciplinary Research Tracks. Developers in and around the city of Leeds, UK! You're invited to participate in the INTEROPen Staff Hackathon. At this free two-day hackathon you'll be challenged to devise, test and develop an innovative solution that will connect systems and help deliver better patient care and staff access. You'll be expected to exploit identity, access management, authorisation and authentication to provide better tools for secure access. Developers must be a member of INTEROPen (for GDPR reasons). To become a member, complete the online joining form. Note that your $25 Hack Participant registration fee will be refunded to you at the event.

Restricted to Teesside University staff.  Daisy Best, Rachel  Morris and David Dixon will be talking about the Opening Doors for Care Leavers Hackathon which took place in November and sharing the ideas being taken forward as a result of the event. In the UK, we have almost 100,000 children in care at any one time; 40% of care leavers aged 19-22 are not in education, employment or training, and there is a much higher tendency for this group of people to commit crime, be homeless and self-harm. The aim of the Hackathon was to help address some of the challenges that young people face when they leave our care system. A diverse group of people – care leavers, foster carers, students business leaders and anyone working in a profession associated with care leavers worked together to consider solutions and help increase engagement in education, training and employment. Lunch is provided.
